Less obvious, but delightful

Spring bulbs and flowering shrubs make the larger show, but there are less obvious floral delights in the garden today.

Only one of the various gingers is flowering today (Asarum maximum ‘Ling Ling’, above), with more on the way. The ground hugging leaves must be lifted to see the flowers, but stooping and lifting are routine in hellebore season.

The flowers of Cyclamen (Cyclamen coum, above) are not particularly showy, but spaced between shallow roots of a Japanese maple the flowers and foliage are greatly appreciated. Cyclamen and gingers do not spread rapidly, but I’ll be adding more of each into small gaps in the shaded front and side gardens.

    Is the Asarum from PlantDelights?

No, Ling Ling is commonly available. I found these at a place in NY at a fraction of the price. I might have to go to PlantDelights for other varieties.
