The Moss Garden at Bloedel Reserve has a number of fallen logs that become accidental stumperies. I would be tempted to add another plant or several, but of course, that would interrupt the intended calmness of this large area.

The stumpery at Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden was the inspiration that eased my decision to leave the roots and a section of trunk of the Bigleaf magnolia that fell a year ago. And, it’s much easier to leave the large sections of tree and root than to remove them.

But, while strolling the Rhodie garden, I unintentionally strolled past the stumpery without noticing it (I doubled back). Ferns and mayapples have hidden all but small areas of the stumps. I’m never the one to argue for less, but a few less would be better. Still, both the intended and unintended stumperies are glorious.
As always, if I only had another acre or five.

Beautiful stumperys!!
